Cake Decorating Classes

I've been really busy this month. I took up some cake decorating classes. I took Cake Decorating Course 1 where I learned all the basic techniques of frosting, piping and making flowers and figure piping with butter cream. The next course I took is the Fondant and Gum Paste Lesson. For this course I learned to make flowers, cover the cakes, making ribbons and borders. Here are some of the cakes we made on our last lesson yesterday.

Can anyone guess which cake is mine? My next 2 courses will start in March and as for time being I am laying off cakes for a while ;)

No Mood for CNY

Chinese New Year is just around the corner and I always get depressed during this time of the year. I am not in the mood to do anything. To make it wrost Diana is not here and my sisters won’t be coming. They plan to go to Japan in April to visit Diana so they decided to come here only around autumn.

It will be my 8th year away from home. I really feel lonely as there is lack of festive mood here compared to Malaysia. Back in those years I will be busy baking cookies, we sisters will be busy making kueh kapit, kueh rose (beehives), shopping for new clothes, cleaning up the house and planning what to cook for our reunion dinner.

I promised a few friends 'Bak Kwa' so I better get my butt up and do something.

Anyone can tell me how I can cheer myself up? Oh well, I guess I will be making a lot of phone call home to Malaysia.

The Funniest First Date Story EVER!!!

My friend Irene forward me this joke and I think is really funny. So I am sharing it here with you. If you didn't see this on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, I hope you're sitting down when you read this. This is probably the funniest date story ever, first date or not!!! We have all had bad dates but this takes the cake.

Jay Leno went into the audience to find the most embarrassing first date that a woman ever had. The winner described her worst first date experience. There was absolutely no question as to why her tale took the prize!

She said it was midwinter... Snowing and quite cold... and the guy had taken her skiing in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a day trip (no overnight). They were strangers, after all, and had never met before. The outing was fun but relatively uneventful until they were headed home late that afternoon. They were driving back down the mountain, when she gradually began to realize that she should not have had that extra latte. They were about an hour away from anywhere with a rest room and in the middle of nowhere! Her companion suggested she try to hold it, which she did for a while. Unfortunately, because of the heavy snow and slow going, there came a point where she told him that he had better stop and let her go beside the road, or it would be the front seat of his car.

They stopped and she quickly crawled out beside the car, yanked her pants down and started. In the deep snow she didn't have good footing, so she let her butt rest against the rear fender to steady herself. Her companion stood on the side of the car watching for traffic and indeed was a real gentleman and refrained from peeking.

All she could think about was the relief she felt despite the rather embarrassing nature of the situation. Upon finishing however, she soon became aware of another sensation. As she bent to pull up her pants, the young lady discovered her buttocks were firmly glued against the car's fender. Thoughts of tongues frozen to poles immediately came to mind as she attempted to disengage her flesh from the icy metal. It was quickly apparent that she had a brand new problem. Due to the extreme cold. Horrified by her plight and yet aware of the humor of the moment, she answered her date's concerns about "what is taking so long" with a reply that indeed, she was "freezing her butt off" and in need of some assistance!

He came around the car as she tried to cover herself with her sweater and then, as she looked imploringly into his eyes, he burst out laughing. She too, got the giggles and when they finally managed to compose themselves, they assessed her dilemma. Obviously, as hysterical as the situation was, they also were faced with a real problem. Both agreed it would take something hot to free her chilly cheeks from the grip of the icy metal! Thinking about what had gotten her into the predicament in the first place, both quickly realized that there was only one way to get her free. So, as she looked the other way, her first time date proceeded to unzip his pants and pee her butt off the fender.

As the audience screamed in laughter, she took the Tonight Show prize hands down. Or perhaps that should be "pants down. "And you thought your first date was embarrassing". Jay Leno's comment..."This gives a whole new meaning to being pissed off."

Oh, if you are wondering how did the first date turn out? He became her husband and was sitting next to her on the Leno show.

Winter Storm!!!

In my part of the country, winter has finally arrived. We are in the mist of snow now and so far is already 2" of accumulations on the ground. Is a mixed with rain and sleet and makes driving impossible. Carlos is still at work and he is going to leave his truck in the office and hitch a ride from a colleague.

The sooner the snow comes, maybe the sooner it will end. That is what I kept telling myself. Hopefully this winter won't be as bad as the last one where I had to shovel a lot. It's the price one has to pay living in a place with 4 seasons.

Hopefully it will stop soon.

My Little Adventure

I did something really stupid this morning. I locked myself out of the house. I was in the mid of cooking some stew. When the stew was simmer away I decided to go outside to get the newspaper and also to get rid of the dead bunny’s Remember the bunny's that ate all my flowers and my tomatoes. Well, found him dead last night right in front of my garden. So this morning I wanted to get rid of it.

We normally don’t lock the door from the garage to the house but since Carlos was away I locked it last night. As usual I had this habit of pulling the door close each time I went out through the garage. Once I pulled the door I remember I forgot to lift the lock up. Oh..noooooooooo what am I going to do. The stew was simmering away on the stove and I can’t get in. All kinds of scenarios ran through my head. What if I burn down the house or the smoke alarm went off or the sprinkle system turns on? So I ran to my good neighbor Nancy and see if she can help. The first thing she said was let’s just call the cops. I was like ‘What’ shouldn’t we call the locksmith? She said the cops will know what to do.

In a matter of 5 min 3 very handsome policemen came. Gosh, there were good looking. Just like those cops we saw in the movies. As usual they took down my name, address, phone number and even date of birth. Now, I had a record with the local police station :( they were trying to figure out how to open the door without damaging anything. First, one of them tried using the credit card method. Nothing happen. Then they asked if is ok to break down the door. I told them to go ahead. Fixing the door is better than burning the house down. After a few slam of his body into the door it OPENS. I was so Happy. First thing I did was run to the kitchen to turn off the stove. Lucky there were still a bit of water left in the kettle.

Look at that poor door :( Actually I was so tempted to ask the policemen to pose for a picture so I can blog about them but after thinking about it better not. They might think I am up to no good :) :)

I am really thankful to the Downintown policemen who came to my rescue. Actually this was not the first time I called on them. I once lock myself out of my car with the engine and A/C running. How clever of me, right. Well, that is another story to tell you one day :) I think I have to give my neighbor a set of my house keys and also my car key. Just in case I lock myself out again. I wonder why this always happen when Carlos is away so he can't come to my rescue. Wait till he comes home and I tell him the story. I am sure he will shake his head. Sorry sweetie, you have to fix the door now . It is better than burning the house down :) :)

Note : I just spoken to Carlos on the phone and he asked me to stay at home, stay put and don't do anything or go anywhere until he gets home tonight. I guess he is scare that his wife might get into troubles again ..ha ..haa By the way, I am going to Micheal's and JoAnn :) :)

Are You Addicted to the Internet

I didn't think that I had an addiction until today. I woke up this morning and I can't get my server going and I had a panic attacked. Poor Carlos was about to leave for work and also going away for a short trip and I was giving him a hard time. I wanted him to check the server or the box downstairs and he needs to get to work. And with him going way I was at the brink of tears. What am I going to do without him and my internet for a few days? I can't blog, I can't chat, I can't check out my favorite blogs, I can't check my comment or reply my emails.

Honestly, what did we do before internet. I can't go on a day without checking my blogs or my emails. It is really sad. Are there any other addicts out there? Please don't tell me I'm the only one. Go ahead and take this test Are You Addicted to the Internet and see if you are an addict like me :) I scored a 69%. It said " In your opinion, life without the internet is hardly worth living. Could be, but you probably need a bit more fresh air and sunshine to think clearly"

I called Verizon and the finally get my server working. My life is back to normal again ;)

New Year Ramblings

2007 was a pretty interesting year for me. I got to know so many new friends through blogging. Thank you all for visiting and also take the time to comment and I really appreciate your encouraging words and not forgetting all my silent readers. Sometime I do get curious at who are they and really wish they will leave comment . I guess they are just shy :)

As I look ahead of 2008, I’m not going to make any resolutions or goals. I know myself that I am just plain lazy or such a procrastinator that I will never achieve it so why bother making one in the first place. I will make resolutions on the Jan 1st and abandons it by the Jan 8th. Instead, I’m going to make a list of things I’m going to do.

Diana was suppose to leave for Japan on Jan 1st but got stranded at Chicago due to the plane engine problem and she only left the next day. I am glad she is safely there now. Is pretty lonely here for me without her. No SMS in the morning or daily phone calls from her to tell us she is safely home after classes or from work. I hope she is having a good time there.

We finally get to sleep on our new bed for the New Year. Carlos finished it on New Year’s Eve and not only that he clean the whole bedroom from ceiling fan to shampooing the carpet. I helped him a bit here and there. So that is how we spent our New Year’s Eve.

Anyway, I wish everyone will have a good year ahead and best wishes to all for the year 2008.
