Housework

Does anyone of you like doing housework? For me I just hate it. I remember reading on the BBC news about women who exercise by doing housework can reduce the risk of breast cancer. I wonder how true that is. I guess is a form of physical exercise, and exercise is always good for us.

For years, in Malaysia, I had a maid to pick up after me. I didn’t even need to make my bed. I used to wake up in the morning, shower, get dress and I’d be out to work, and when I’d come home my apartment will be spotless, clothes ironed, bed made and sometimes my maid, Siti, even made soup for me in the slow cookers. I guess I was spoiled in many ways. Since moving here, I have to do everything myself. I remember once when I called home the first thing my mom asked me was, you know how to make your bed. Years ago all bed sheets come in a flat sheet and not those fitted kind like now, so I’ve always had problem putting it on and she knew that.

I've learned a lot since coming here to the US. No maid for me and I have to do everything myself. I think I am pretty good now. I clean and iron the best I can but I am not as good as Carlos. When he cleans he really cleans. He does it from top to bottom on his hand and knees. I wish he’d do that more often.

Sometimes I do wish I have a maid here, mainly to clean up after my cooking and baking mess. Too bad we can't afford it because maids are expensive here. You have to be really rich to afford one. Now I have to get back to my kitchen to clean after making my Baked Shell Pasta.

Ironically, I never had a maid to clean up after me, but I still hate cleaning. Sometimes I would procrastinate cleaning until it feels too yucky to walk on the floor. Yeah I know...but I just hate it!

I can't wait till I get a maid. :)

Zue, I will never enjoy cleaning but I don't have a choice :)

My attitude towards cleaning is same as Zue's. The chore is hateful but necessary, so might as well enjoy it. David is a FT slob but he is very good at gadget hunting. He found me some amazing wonders, so my cleaning times are much easier. :)

Rita, What is the gadget David bought for you. I want to get it too :) The best tool for me is the swiffer.

PJ, I too don't mind baking and cooking but the cleaning up part is the killer one. Nasib baik ada dishwasher :)

David bought a bunch of stuff, Gert. The most useful is the Dyson complete with accessories including "finger duster" for blinds and stick-on duster. The dust actually stays on the brush until you rub or wash it off! Amazing technology!

Gert ... forgot to add that my sis in Melbourne bought a vacuum cleaner that sucks dust into a tub of water. I haven't seen one here but it sounds useful of keeping dust from re-settling as we vacuum. She said it was expensive. Sigh.
